Almost hypocritical?

Before I start this post you will need to read this article from the BBC website about an incident in Glasgow.

I read that this morning and, being involved with Tequila Radio at my uni I just thought how stupid they were...then I thought about it a bit longer and realised that they are still stupid, but...what role did the uni have in it?

University's are always giving advice to people about drinking, not to binge drink, stay safe, things like that. They have to, makes it look good for the parents. But actually, do they really mean it? If they did why would they have "drink the bar dry events" at the union, why make drinks at the union so ridiculously cheap if you don't want people to binge drink. I know its all about competition, and other places do it, so they need to to get business, but surely they should be trying to set an example, not saying one thing and doing another. At Cardiff University there is an event called "The Lash". What's that about? The name just says it all really doesn't it!

I'm not against drinking at all, and I sometimes get sucked in by it all, but that doesn't mean the whole culture is right and surely the University's and Student Unions should be doing something productive about it rather than going back on their words.

Rant Over.

Will post again soon.
